This hike within the Tope de Coroa Natural Park is challenging and shows how sparse life and abundance can go hand in hand. As the hike takes at least seven hours there should be some familiarity with tropical temperatures.

Why you will love this hike

At dawn it's time to leave. You experience a wonderful sunrise and start into an eventful day which is characterized by the extremes of nature which are close together on Santo Antão. At the foot of the inactive volcano Tope des Coroa you hike through a desert area that demands a lot from the little life therein. At the same time you can already see the blue ocean glittering in the distance with its abundance of fish. The silence and vastness of this region is indescribable. Thoughts about the insignificant are suppressed. Satisfaction remains.

The day ends in the very original fishing village of Monte Trigo. From here we take a fishing boat to Tarrafal where we stay overnight after a long day.
