The north coast of Santo Antão stretches majestically and proudly in front of the deep blue Atlantic. The waves break powerful, roaring and foaming against the rocks, digging holes and structures in the island's flanks.

For more than a hundred years a path has meandered through all this, connecting the remote West with the East. The hiker's view wanders up the rock face and over the wide ocean. In the early months of the year some are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of migrating humpback whales.
